The Data Management Body Of Knowledge (DMBOK): A Practitioner Overview

The Data Management Body of Knowledge (DM BOK) is internationally recognised as defining the functions and activities that are performed by data management professionals. In this presentation we will explore the 10 data management functions and how these functions are further defined into elements. The presentations will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of DM BOK and look at practical ways to apply it in the work place. As well the presentation will explain how DM BOK also provides the foundation for the Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) and can be used for the Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) accreditations.

Speaker Biography - Glen Bell, Robinson Ryan

Glen Bell is a highly experienced data architect and leads the Robinson Ryan Data Management practice. He has worked on data management projects in North America, Europe, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand and throughout Australia. He has over twenty-five years’ experience in information technology covering all phases of the application life cycle from systems planning through to implementation. He has lectured masters levels students in Information Technology Strategic Planning and presented to business conferences on enterprise architecture and information management. Glen is currently the President of the Sydney chapter of DAMA (Data Management Association).He is a Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) at mastery level.

DAMA (Data Management Association) is a not-for-profit, vendor independent association of technical and business professionals dedicated to advancing the concepts and practices for data resource management and enterprise information. The primary purpose of DAMA is to promote the understanding, development, and practice of managing data to support business strategies.  DAMA has chapters and members throughout the world.

DAMA has been in operation for over 20 years in Australia and there are active DAMA chapters in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Canberra. DAMA Sydney offers a regular speaker programme as well as regular meetings, seminars and workshops.
